Hello triathletes!
Last year I put on an open water swim clinic at Guelph Lakes Conservation Area and this year I am going to do it again!

We will be giving instructions to beginner triathletes and those that need more training in the open water. We will also go over basic wetsuit instructions and transition from the water, out of the wetsuit and onto the bike for a ride.

When:
Sunday June 7th @ 10am to 1pm
Sunday June 14th @10am to 1pm

Where:
Guelph Lakes Conservation Area

Cost:
$35 which includes the swim clinic followed by a coached bike on the Guelph Lakes triathlon bike course, entrance into the park (only those doing the clinic, guests must pay their own entrance fee), and a small snack!

Format:
10am to 10:30am - Introduction to open water swimming 10:30am to 10:45am - Wetsuit 101
10:45am to 11:30am - Open Water 101
11:30am to 1pm - 20km bike
Followed by snack and social

Coaches:
Robert Harriman - NCCP Level 1 triathlon certified. I have been doing triathlons since 1999 starting with try-a-tri’s, then to sprint distance and then to two 1/2 ironman finishes at Peterborough.

Derek Pitt - CANFIT Pro, 2006 Hawaii Ironman finisher, 3 time World triathlon championships 1993,95, 97.

Amy Mausser - Athletic therapist, 2008 World triathlon championships.

I received great feedback from the participants last year and here is just one of the responses I received;

“The things I liked most about the clinic on sunday were: that we repeated the components several times allowing us to get practice and use to doing what you had just taught us, also that the group was small (it was less intimidating and that way we could interact with everyone and learn from everyone there), and that you were prepared and had a plan of what we were going to do (I know this sounds strange but it really helps to learn from someone who knows what they are doing ahead of time and are prepared to teach, as oppose to just being there to help)! There was nothing that I didn’t like, and it seems like you covered all the important aspects of the swim! It may have been helpful to practice the exit and transition part a few more times, that is the part I find the most difficult-geting out of the water and getting ready for the bike. Again, everything was great, the clinic was very helpful and I appreciate the time you took to run that!”
